Hyundai Virtual Guide Provides Convenient, Simple Ways to Become Familiar with Full Vehicle Capabilities

Later this year, Hyundai will be the first mainstream automaker to launch an augmented reality owner’s manual app. The Hyundai Virtual Guide app is the brand’s modern take on the traditional owner’s manual, allowing consumers to use their smartphone or tablet computer to get how-to information for repairs, maintenance and vehicle features. At launch, the Hyundai Virtual Guide is compatible with the 2015 Sonata model, and will soon become available for additional models. The new app recognizes more than 45 major features of the Sonata and is available for free download on the Apple App store and Google Play.

Hyundai used quality consumer survey results to determine the top difficult-to-use features to incorporate into the Virtual Guide. The app also contains 82 how-to videos, six 3D overlay images that appear once users scan areas of their vehicle like the engine bay and more than 50 informational guides.
“The Virtual Guide is aimed at educating our owners on how to use the functions and features of their vehicle,” said Frank Ferrara, executive vice president, customer satisfaction, Hyundai Motor America. “We modernized the idea of an owner’s manual to provide the highest-quality user experience for the growing population of tech savvy consumers.”

The Hyundai Virtual Guide uses two- and three-dimensional tracking technology to deliver deep levels of information related to different parts of the car. Users simply position their phone or tablet’s camera over the part they want to learn more about.

The Hyundai Virtual Guide can virtually identify and provide how-to information on the following features:

  • Air filter
  • Smart Cruise Control
  • Bluetooth phone pairing
  • Warning indicators
  • Clock
  • Engine oil
  • Brake fluid
  • Fuse box
  • Smart trunk
Hyundai is a leader in reinventing the thick owner’s manual sitting in every car’s glove box. In 2010, Hyundai redefined the luxury-vehicle ownership experience with the launch of the Equus Owner's Manual App for iPad®, iPhone and iPod touch. In 2014, the Hyundai Assurance Car Care mobile and in-vehicle app arrived as another convenient option for accessing car care services and vehicle information. The in-vehicle Car Care app put the owner’s manual right inside the vehicle’s touchscreen, giving customers the services and information they want the most, when and where they need them most: right inside the car.

Meet The 2016 Honda Pilot

The all-new 2016 Honda Pilot SUV, with seating up to eight passengers, joins the Honda CR-V and all-new HR-V as the flagship in an expanded lineup of innovative, benchmark-setting Honda SUVs. It is the third generation of Honda's popular three-row SUV to be designed, developed and manufactured in America.

The 2016 Pilot receives a new engine from Honda's EarthDreams® Technology powertrain series – a direct-injected 3.5-liter SOHC i-VTEC® V-6 engine with Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM®) – along with the available two new advanced transmissions and a class-defining all-new intelligent variable torque management (i-VTM4™) AWD system with Intelligent Traction Management and torque vectoring capability. Together, these features make this the most powerful, refined and capable Pilot Honda has ever offered.
These technologies, combined with a nearly 300-pound reduction in vehicle weight (on upper trims), improved aerodynamics and reduced running resistance, make this the most fuel-efficient offering in the midsize SUV segment, with EPA fuel-economy ratings improved by as much as 2/2/2 mpg city/highway/combined2 over the previous model.

The new Pilot also moves to the top of the class in safety performance with the most comprehensive suite of Honda Sensing™ advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies ever offered on a Honda vehicle. Furthermore, the 2016 Pilot adopts the next generation of Honda's Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure along with a new "3-bone" underbody frame design and new hot-stamped ultra-high strength steel door rings. Taken together, these engineering features and technologies deliver major gains to the Pilot's collision avoidance and collision protection capabilities, as it targets the highest available U.S. government (NCAP) and IIHS safety ratings.

See the Exterior section for more information on exterior styling.

The premium quality of the new Pilot carries over to the interior, where designers have applied high quality, soft-touch materials throughout the cabin and added thoughtful details such as LED map lighting (see the Interior section for more information on interior styling).

Additional high-end amenities include a standard 4.2-inch color display, available heated
and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel and heated second-row seats. For the first time, the top-of-the-line Elite trim includes second-row captain's chairs, providing for easy walk through between the second and third rows for a 7-passenger configuration, in addition to the standard second-row three-person 60/40 split seat for 8-passenger seating capacity. See the Comfort and Convenience section for more information.

Advanced Technology
The new Pilot delivers the connectivity and power access that modern families demand, including up to five USB ports, four that provide better recharging with 2.5-amp output – fully adequate to charge iPads or smartphones while they're in use. Additional available ports and plugs include an auxiliary jack for nearly any audio player, an HDMI port for a gaming console or other similarly connected device, two headphone jacks, and up to three 12-volt power outlets and a 115-volt AC outlet to power a range of compatible devices. See

the Interior section for more information.
The new Pilot also incorporates Honda's latest thinking in advanced, family-friendly technology, including an upsized 8-inch capacitive touchscreen Display Audio connectivity interface powered by a new Android-based operating system and more powerful processor, along with an available all-new embedded Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™. The new navigation system features improved graphics and new capabilities, including 3D renderings of terrain, buildings and road signs, improved lane guidance, live search function and more.

Family-Friendly Utility
The new Pilot builds on its reputation for best-in-class interior space, versatility and utility with 3.5 inches of added overall vehicle length, enabling an inch longer tandem seating distance and a 1.3-inch longer cargo area that can hold an 82-quart cooler without compromising third-row seating capability. Third-row entry and exit is made even easier and more intuitive courtesy of the new available one-touch second-row seat on EX-L and above models, and larger third-row entryway. Compared with the current Pilot, the width of the lower portion of the third-row lower entryway has been increased by 2.5 inches with an inch lower step-over height.

The Pilot's new center console features a cavernous storage compartment capable of accommodating items as large as a full-size iPad or a purse. And with its seamless cover in the closed position, the console provides a convenient, non-slip surface for items that the driver or front passenger may need close at hand. See the Interior section for more information.

EarthDreams® Technology Powertrain
The 2016 Pilot delivers more refined, powerful and fuel-efficient performance than ever before courtesy of its new 3.5-liter, direct-injected i-VTEC® V-6 engine with Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM™) cylinder deactivation technology. The engine's peak output of 280 horsepower and 262 lb.-ft. of torque is up 30 hp and 9 lb.-ft. over the previous model.4 The engine is matched to a choice of two new advanced transmissions – a Pilot-first 6-speed automatic transmission or, on upper trims, a Honda-first 9-speed automatic transmission – both delivering more refined, responsive and fuel-efficient performance.

These new powertrains combine with a new, lighter yet more rigid unit-body and aerodynamically efficient body and chassis designs that result in class-leading EPA fuel economy ratings topping out at 20/27/23 mpg (city/highway/combined) for two-wheel-drive models and 19/26/22 mpg for all-wheel-drive models.2 See the Powertrain section for more information.

Intelligent Variable Torque Management (i-VTM4™) AWD System
The Pilot's available new Intelligent VTM4 (i-VTM4) is the most sophisticated and technologically advanced all-wheel-drive system offered in a mainstream, three-row SUV. This entirely more capable system progressively distributes optimum torque between the front and rear axles and, for the first time ever in a Honda vehicle, dynamically distributes engine torque between the left and right rear wheels. Benefits include superior all-weather handling and neutral, accurate steering under power that is more effective than front-drive, rear-drive or conventional all-wheel-drive systems.

Intelligent Traction Management
This new Pilot features a new button-operated Intelligent Traction Management System that offers different operating modes, for the AWD: Normal, Snow, Mud and Sand; and for the FWD: Normal and Snow. Developed, tuned and tested at various locations in the U.S. and around the world – including Imperial Dunes "Glamis", California; Moscow, Russia; and Dubai, United Arab Emirates – the Intelligent Traction Management system allows the driver to select the operating mode that best suits the driving conditions by simply pushing a button on the vehicle's center console. Based on the setting selected, the system adjusts the drive-by-wire map, transmission shift map, Vehicle Stability Assist™ and i-VTM4 torque distribution for AWD-equipped models for optimal performance in a variety of road or surface conditions. See the Powertrain section for more information.

Advanced Safety Performance
In keeping with Honda's commitment to safety, the new Pilot features the most comprehensive set of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies ever offered on a Honda vehicle. Together these technologies make up Honda Sensing™, a suite of technologies designed to expand the driver's situational awareness while sensing and responding to potential road hazards, including other vehicles, road obstacles and even pedestrians, even to the point of mitigating the possibility or severity of a collision. It includes a standard Multi-Angle Rearview Camera and a suite of available safety and driver assistive technologies that includes Honda's popular LaneWatch™ display, a blind spot information system, Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Adaptive Cruise Control, and two Honda-first technologies: Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) system and Rear Cross Traffic Monitor.

The new Pilot is expected to deliver the highest safety ratings in its class and targets a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and a TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), including a GOOD rating in all crash modes. The new Pilot incorporates Honda's next-generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure, designed to more efficiently absorb and disperse the energy from a frontal collision, along with new ultra-high-strength door rings designed to help better protect occupants. The 2016 Pilot also incorporates an all-new "3-bone" platform while also utilizing high and ultra-high strength body materials, which together reduce noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), improve handling, increase rigidity and reduce weight.

Standard safety and driver-assistive features include four-channel anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Brake Assist and Hill Start Assist; Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) with Traction Control; an Expanded View Driver's Mirror; dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags, driver and front passenger SmartVent® side airbags and side-curtain airbags for all outboard seating positions; and a new Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with real-time display of individual tire pressures. See the Safety and Driver Assistance section for more information.

The new BMW X1. Urban all-rounder delivers boundless driving pleasure

The new BMW X1 – the successor to the model that blazed the trail for this class of car – treats the premium compact segment to an even more potent shot of Sports Activity Vehicle DNA. The second generation of this successful model, more than 730,000 units of which have now been sold, takes to the stage with a body design straight out of the BMW X model mould. The interior of the new BMW X1, meanwhile, offers significantly more space for passengers and luggage, a cutting-edge premium ambience and functionality grounded in solid engineering. Four-cylinder engines from the BMW Group’s latest generation of power units, an efficiency-optimized version of the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system and newly developed chassis technology all help to palpably enhance sporting ability and ride comfort compared to the outgoing model – with fuel consumption and emissions reduced by up to 17 per cent, model-on-model.

Alongside its market-leading dynamics and efficiency, a host of innovative equipment features also help to secure the new BMW X1 its stand-out position in the segment. Among the items on the options list are full-LED headlights, Dynamic Damper Control, the BMW Head-Up Display and the Driving Assistant Plus system.

New generation of engines, efficiency-optimised xDrive all-wheel-drive system.
The second-generation BMW X1 (fuel consumption combined: 6.4–4.1 litres/100 km [44.1–68.9 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 149–109 g/km) lines up with an all-new selection of engines. Two petrol and three diesel units will be available from launch in October 2015, all of which have four cylinders and are members of the BMW Group’s new engine family. Outputs range from 110 kW/150 hp to 170 kW/231 hp. The engines link up with either a six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed Steptronic unit, both of which are new developments.

The xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system also takes its place in the new BMW X1 in a further developed form. The weight-saving, compact and efficient system uses an electro-hydraulically controlled multi-plate clutch to distribute drive between the front and rear axle just as required for the situation at hand. Joining the fray in the BMW X1 sDrive20i and BMW X1 sDrive18d, meanwhile, is a front-wheel-drive construction which has been developed to deliver the driving dynamics typical of the brand and has already proved its mettle in the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer.

Premiere in the BMW X1: Head-Up Display and Driving Assistant Plus. The change of BMW X1 generations also brings significant advances in the field of intelligent connectivity. A new addition to the range of BMW ConnectedDrive features is a BMW Head-Up Display which, as in the larger BMW X models, projects driving-related information directly onto the windscreen. The BMW X1 can now also be specified with the Driving Assistant Plus line-up of the Active Cruise Control system with Stop & Go function, Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Jam Assistant, Collision Warning and Pedestrian Warning with City Braking function. These systems are complemented by an up-to-the-minute selection of apps allowing customers to add to the car’s comfort, navigation and infotainment functionality, as desired.

Chevrolet is Global Leader for Android Auto, Apple CarPlay

According to Strategy Analytics, there are more than 2.3 billion smartphones in use globally, and that number continues to rise. And on the road, customers are demanding better integration between phones and their vehicles. Whether they have an Apple or Android phone, Chevrolet is committed to providing the smartest, simplest connected driving experience possible to owners across the globe.

For the 2016 model year, Chevrolet will offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility in more models than any automotive brand. The 14 Chevrolet models include the all-new 2016 Cruze compact car, which will debut on June 24. Cruze is Chevrolet’s best-selling passenger car, with more than 3 million sold since launch. Additional models are listed in a chart below.

“For most of us, our smartphones are essential,” said Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors. “Partnering with Apple and Google to offer CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility across the widest range of models in the industry is a great example of how Chevrolet continues to democratize technology that’s important to our customers.”

Chevrolet’s seven-inch MyLink infotainment system gives owners a smart and simple way to access both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The eight-inch version of MyLink will be compatible only with Apple CarPlay at the beginning of the 2016 model year.  While development and testing is not yet complete, Android Auto compatibility may be available on the eight-inch version of MyLink later in the 2016 model year.

Each system builds off of the features smartphone users rely on most. Android Auto is built around Google Maps, Google Now and the ability to talk to Google, as well as a growing audio and messaging app ecosystem that includes WhatsApp, Skype, Google Play Music, Spotify, and podcast players. A full list of supported apps is available at Android.com/auto.

Apple CarPlay takes the iPhone features you’d want to access while driving and puts them on the vehicle’s display in a smart, simple manner. That allows drivers to make calls, send and receive messages and listen to music right from the touchscreen or by voice via Siri. Apple CarPlay supported apps include Phone, Messages, Maps, Music and compatible third-party apps. A full list of those apps can be found at Apple.com/ios/carplay.

Many features can be controlled via voice commands through a button on the steering wheel, helping drivers spend more time with eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.

Chevrolet has a strong track record when it comes to broad availability of customer-centric innovation as the first brand to introduce Siri Eyes Free functionality and the first and only car company to offer available OnStar 4G LTE connectivity across a range of cars, trucks and crossovers in the U.S. and Canada. In less than one year, Chevrolet has connected more than a half-million customers to high-speed 4G LTE Wi-Fi.

Chevrolet customers in markets around the world including Brazil, Mexico and Canada will benefit from this new level of smartphone integration. Specific market availability for Android Auto can be found here. Current Apple CarPlay markets can be found here.
In 2014, the 14 models included in this rollout accounted for more than 2.4 million vehicle sales, or 51 percent of Chevrolet’s total global sales.

Using either application is simple in a compatible 2016 Chevrolet. A “Projection” icon on the MyLink screen is visible when a phone is not connected, then changes to indicate either CarPlay or Android Auto (whichever is applicable) when a compatible phone is connected via USB. Android Auto requires a phone running the Android Lollipop 5.0 operating system or above, while Apple CarPlay requires an iPhone 5 or later.

Compatible apps need to be downloaded to a phone before using. Apple and Google’s privacy statements and terms of use apply.  Data plan rates may also apply.

Audi launches innovative mobility program: Audi on demand

On April 27th, Audi introduced Audi on demand, an innovative mobility program that gives customers a new way to experience the Audi brand and its range of vehicles at the touch of a button. With Audi on demand, customers can reserve an Audi by the day for up to 28 days.  The premium service is currently available in San Francisco as part of a beta program and will be rolled out across additional U.S. cities in the coming years.

Audi on demand gives customers access to a wide range of the Audi vehicle lineup, from the Audi A4 sedan to Audi R8 supercar. Via the Audi on demand app – currently available for download in the Apple App store – customers select their preferred Audi model. It is then personally delivered to them at the location of their choice by an Audi on demand concierge, who will help the customer get acquainted with the vehicle, from setting music preferences to tailoring the navigation system. Customers are able to lock and unlock their vehicle, as well as enable driving via the Audi on demand app or via a personal key card. No membership fee is required.  Additionally, the vehicle the customer sees and requests in the Audi on demand app will be the same vehicle delivered to them – down to the exact color and trim.

“Audi on demand embodies the brand’s core values of technological progress and a love for discovery,” said Mark Del Rosso, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Audi of America. “The service is rooted in customization, personalization and having the right car for the right moment. While competing services point their customers to vehicles parked on the street, Audi on demand delivers a truly premium experience, with concierges personally delivering and returning vehicles for customers where and when they need them.”

Audi on demand allows fans to match specific vehicles to their driving needs. For example, customers planning a trip to the mountains might request an Audi Q5, while those looking to arrive in style in wine country might request a sporty S7 or RS 5. All Audi on demand vehicles come equipped with Premium Plus trim and complimentary additional features, such as SiriusXM® satellite radio and MMI Navigation plus, as well as quattro® all-wheel drive.

Audi on demand also allows customers to customize their vehicles with several complimentary accessories. Child safety seats are available for all models, and ski racks and bicycle racks are available for the Audi allroad and Q5. Customers have the option of picking up their vehicle or having it delivered to a location of their choosing within the city of San Francisco. These locations could be curbside, outside of a business or residence, or in private off-street parking of any kind, such as a driveway or private parking lot. Since the Audi on demand app features a digital key, repeat customers with private parking have the option of having their vehicle dropped off and picked up at specific delivery times without needing to meet a concierge as they are able to instantly access the vehicle from their smartphone.

Please visit the Apple App Store to download the Audi on demand app and sign up for the waitlist to be one of the first to experience Audi on demand.
For more information on Audi on demand, please visit: www.audiondemand.com. More information about the complete lineup of on demand vehicles can be found at www.audiusa.com.

Audi on demand is just one mobility service offered by Audi that challenges traditional concepts of vehicle ownership and usage. Soon to launch is Audi at home, a premium, collaborative car initiative that refashions mobility as a personalized micro-sharing experience. Located in select premium condominium complexes, residents can utilize their smartphones to access a car share service with an exclusive fleet of Audi vehicles. These include RS models, cabriolets and SUVs, with plans to also feature the all-new Audi A3 Sportback e-tron®, the first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle Audi is making available in the US market. The service allows customers to enjoy the benefits of driving an Audi at their convenience. Rates are hourly and prices vary by model.

Meet the 2015 Buick Regal With OnStar 4G LTE Technology

On Thursday July 24th I got an up-close look at the all-new Buick Regal With OnStar 4G LTE Technology. Yes. It’s a Buick. And its has a Wi-Fi Hotspot inside of it — a powerful available Wi-Fi connection that travels with you at 4G LTE speeds. Keep everyone connected with up-to-the-second news, weather, traffic and travel info. Keep everyone happy with streamed movies, music and games.

This feature, provided by OnStar, allows for greater information and entertainment to be streamed to the vehicles, and at faster speeds than previously possible. It also enables a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot capable of connecting up to seven devices in and around the vehicle.

Here’s what you can expect:

Easily connected. Amazingly simple.

Any time your vehicle is on, your hotspot is available and ready to connect to your devices, so it's easy to use. With Buick's stronger signal you have a fast and reliable connection. And because the built-in Wi-Fi hotspot is powered by your vehicle, you don't have to worry about your mobile device battery.

The new features build on the vehicle-wide enhancements introduced in 2014,
making the European-bred midsize sedan a smarter choice for customers seeking
technology-infused performance matched with the brand’s signature luxury and
refinement.

Every 2015 model offered with OnStar 4G LTE will also come with Buick AppShop, a feature of IntelliLink. Through Buick AppShop, owners can use their 4G LTE connection to download apps and stream data – such as Internet radio playlists – through the in-vehicle interface.

In collaboration with AT&T, the data connection in the car will be fast – and flexible. Current AT&T customers can add their vehicle to a shareable bucket of data through AT&T Mobile Share plans.

Pricing for Buick 4G LTE service from OnStar starts at $5/Mo.
