| Delhi's property tax collection falling short of its target by Rs 400 crore in the previous fiscal year, the civic agency is now planning to carry out a survey to identify defaulters — especially those people running paying guest facilities from their homes. According to latest figures released by the civic agency, a sum Rs 1,064 crore was collected as property tax for the year 2008-09 as against the targeted amount of Rs 1,463 crore. ''Most people who live near North Campus and South Campus, rent out their homes or convert a part of it into paying guest accommodations or hostels. They, however, do not pay taxes as per commercial rates. In order to increase our revenue collection, MCD officials need to go door-to-door to identify such defaulters and charge commercial tax from them,'' said Rajni Abbi, deputy standing committee chairperson, MCD. Today we will be taking a look at how to maximise profits and put your
internet business on auto-pilot using continuity.
Specifically, in this newsletter you will learn:
- Continuity deconstructed
- How to setup a site that will provide you with a regular monthly
income
- How to retain site membership and increase subscriptions
- How to find or produce products to feed your member base
- The micro-continuity phenomenon
Global, it's no secret that membership sites are a great way to
earn a residual monthly income for your business. Pepople have been
doing this online and offline for years. Think back to before the
internet. Remember all those Time Life promotions where you could
subscribe to magazines, cd collections and even model cars? If you
have watched any late-night TV lately - you might be surprised to see
that some of these SAME promotions are still running!
The business model is loosely structured as follows:
1. National TV / Radio / Magazine / Newspaper / Internet advertising
campaign.
2. A very cheap introductory offer for the first issue / item. E.g.
Subscribe to the XYZ music CD series and get the first 2 CDs for only
$1 + P&H (postage and handling)
3. Customers who take up the introductory offer are billed $1 +
postage and handling for the first 2 CDs (NOTE: Often the 'handling'
component of the cost covers the price of CD production etc.)
4. Customers are then entered into a continuity program where they
receive the next CD in the series every month, and are billed the
normal price directly from their credit card - e.g. $29 every month
until you cancel.
So why is this business model so successful?
Essentially, the entire business model hinges on the law of
reciprocity. The law of reciprocity states that if I give you
something, e.g. a gift, a discount or free help / advice, then you
feel compelled to give me something in return to maintain the balance
of the universe.
How this works in the above example is that the customer is given a
steep discount for the first 2 CDs, and then feels compelled to
continue with the subscription for the entire CD series.
There are other factors that come into play. For example, the above
business model gives the customer a chance to try the product for
almost $0 outlay. This gives the product a chance to prove itself to
the consumer. The customer gets to see the quality of the packaging,
listen to the quality of the CD recording.
On top of this, people don't like leaving things unfinished. This is
just human-nature. So once a customer has the first 2 CDs in the
series, they feel compelled to continue with the subscription to
complete their entire collection. Successful companies like Time Life
also offer other incentives, cross-promotions, upgrades and bonuses
along the way to keep the consumer interested.
One final factor that comes into play from a psychological perspective
is that the initial saving from the outlay of $1 can be averaged
across the entire collection. So for example, if 2 CDs cost $1, and
the next CD is $29 (the regular price), then in the mind of the
consumer, they have paid only $10 per CD - which is a bargain. By the
time month 3 rolls around (where the total outlay for 4 CDs would be
$59 - or about $15 each), the customer is hooked and wants to get the
whole collection.
What a powerful business model! More importantly, with internet
technology, this is a business model that successful internet
marketers have been copying for years - and you can too.
So how do you setup a site that will provide you with a regular
monthly income?
Luckily, these days setting up a membership site is relatively simple.
It will still require a bit of forward planning on your part in terms
of the levels of access you will require and how you want the site to
operate, but the software will do the majority of the leg-work for you
once you are set up.
There are a plethora of different products on the market to help you

So why would people pay you a monthly fee to access your site?
There are a couple of different membership site structures.
1. Content structure.
With this type of membership site, the customer receives additional
content each and every month. For example, if you were running a
graphics membership site, you might supply a set of icons one month,
avatars the next month, and headers the month after that.
2. Service structure.
With this type of membership site, the customer is paying for an
ongoing service. The simplest example for this type of membership
site is hosting. You pay a monthly fee, and recieve ongoing hosting
in return for your monthly fee. Other types of service sites might
include article writing, graphic design, copywriting, email
subscription building etc.
Now with the Content structure type of membership site, you have a
couple of options in the way that you structure it. Firstly you may
just add additonal content every month, and make all content available
to all members. The other way to structure this is to "drip feed"
your content based on sign up date. For example, 1 years worth of
content is pre-loaded into the membership site, however when you first
join, you only get access to 1/12 of the content. Each month as the
member is re-billed, the membership site software will automatically
open up additional access to more content for that customer.
The obvious advantage of drip feeding your content is that you don't
need to be constantly producing new content on a monthly basis. You
can create a years worth of content, set up the website, promote it
then move on to your next project. Be aware that not all membership
site software will allow you to drip feed content as it is a complex
process, so you may need to get some custom coding done for your
membership site script to make this happen.

How do you retain your members and increase subscriptions?
It has been said that each membership site has 3 types of members:
The 1st type if member will join your site (perhaps taking you up on
your introductory offer), then cancel their subscription immediately.
The 2nd type of member will join and stay a member for an average of 3
months.
The 3rd type of member will join and stay a member forever.
Surprisingly, it is the 2nd type of member you should be focusing your
efforts on retaining to increase your revenues. Retaining all your
2nd types of members for only 1 additional month will increase your
profits by a staggering 50%, so any effort you expend trying to retain
these members will certainly have a payoff for your bottom line.
The best way to retain members is to offer bonuses just AFTER the
monthly anniversary of their joining date. For example, if a member
joins on January 15th, then their first bonus should be set for
February 16th or 17th. The key to making this all work is to
communicate and re-sommunicate to your members in the week and days
before their bonus is due, the fact that they are getting a bonus.
Obviously, your bonuses will need to be quality and complement the
content already offered by being a member of your site. The beauty of
membership sote software is that you can communicate these bonuses in
pre-set emails that go out automatically on the specified anniversary
dates calculated automatically by the system. Set it, and forget it.
You'll be happy because your member retention rate will increase.
Your members will be happy because they are getting excellent value
for money. And the whole system will run automatically while you
focus on your next project.
So how do you produce a constant stream of content to feed your
members?
The answer to that question depends wholly on the type of membership
site you are offering.
If you are an expert offering tutoring or advice based content, then
you will need to create this content and make it available within the
members area of your site each and every month. This content might
take the form of audio recordings, video, camtasia videos or articles
/ documents.
If you are not the expert, then you can outsource the product
creation. I have covered outsourcing extensively in previous
newsletters. But briefly, below are some of the starting points to
find people to help with ebook writing, graphic design, programming,
video creation, audio creation and any number of services that can be
performed online and remotely:

Whenever you outsource a project or product creation, be sure to be as
specific as you can in the project description. Not only will this
help ferret out the pretenders and increase the quality of the bids on
your project, but you'll also end up with a higher quality product in
a shoerter period of time. Be prepared to rigorously review any
products you get created, and don't be scared to ask for revisions and
changes until you are satisfied that the final product matches what
was specified int he original project specification. If need be, add
a clause to your project description saying "I reserve the right to
modify these specifications at any time throughout the development
process. Additional project fees may be payable as required."
The entire process I have described above, setting up a membership
site, then outsourcing the product creation is what we call
geoarbitrage. YOu are sourcing products at a certain rate of pay, and
then on selling them to your members and making a profit. Your profit
is based upon the fact that you came up with the idea, and took the
initiative to setup the business. The whole concept is win/win/win.
The members get access to relatively cheap monthly content or
specialised knowledge, the outsource staff get a relatively good wage
and the opportunity to work and gain experience, and you thhe website
owner get a % profit for managing the entire process end to end.
If you don't feel comfortable creating your own products just yet,
then you can purchase private label rights to products / content and
add these to your membership site on a monthly basis. This is as easy
as firing up Google and typing in "YOUR KEYWORD + PLR". For example
if you have a membership site specialising in dog training, type in
"dog training plr", and see what products are available to purchase
and offer to your members.
So why wouldn't my members just Google "dog training plr" and purchase
these products directly I hear you ask? The simple answer is that
normally you pay a premium to purchase the PLR version of products.
For example, the PLR rights to a dog training product might be $200
for a video series. However your members can join your site for $27
per month and get THAT product and many more each and every month.
The 2nd reason is that with a membership site, normally you are not
just offering content to your members, but creating a community where
members can be part of an exclusive group and interact with each other
in private member forums, and private messagind facilites from within
the members area etc.
The micro-continuity phenomenon.
Russell Brunson is an extremely successful online marketer who now
devotes his time and efforts in training other people how to be
successful online. Russell's latest product
http://www.microcontinuity.com is showing how to setup membership
sites with a finite lifespan. This approach takes the drip feed
concept I described earlier and caps the membership at a pre-defined
number of months. In essence if you join a micro-continuity site, you
are signing up for only a limited number of monthly payments to
receive all the content on offer. The premise and strategy behind
this approach is that it is more easily digestible for consumers to
sign-up if they know they are only committed for a finite time.
That's micro-continuty in anutshell, you can adopt the same approach

Marketing, and how as either a beginner, intermediate or advanced
internet marketer you should be approaching this business.
Specifically, in this newsletter you will learn:
- The difference between Internet Marketing Strategy and Tactics
- When, where and how you should be focusing your energy and efforts
- How the top internet marketers use this knowledge to their advantage
- The importance of momentum, timing and patience
Let me start by stating how I define the difference between Strategy
and Tactics, and why I believe knowing the difference is crucial to
your success online.
The Dictionary.com definition for "Strategy" is:
1. Also, strategics. the science or art of combining and employing the
means of war in planning and directing large military movements and
operations.
2. the use or an instance of using this science or art.
3. skillful use of a stratagem: The salesperson's strategy was to seem
always to agree with the customer.
4. a plan, method, or series of maneuvers or stratagems for obtaining
a specific goal or result: a strategy for getting ahead in the world.
The Dictionary.com definition for "Tactics" is:
1. (usually used with a singular verb) the art or science of disposing
military or naval forces for battle and maneuvering them in battle.
2. (used with a plural verb) the maneuvers themselves.
3. (used with a singular verb) any mode of procedure for gaining
advantage or success.
4. (usually used with a singular verb) Linguistics. a. the patterns in
which the elements of a given level or stratum in a language may
combine to form larger constructions.
b. the study and description of such patterns.
So clearly, from the above we see that "Strategy" relates to planning
and methodology. I like to refer to this as "High Level".
We also see that "tactics" refers to the procedures, or the parts that
make up the whole strategy. I like to refer to these as "Lower
level".
Now let me give you a bit of background as to why I personally needed
to make the distinction between the above.
I am quite technical. I have a technical background. I am not a
programmer, but I understand the software development lifecycle, and
can converse with developers to get projects completed. I am more of
a project manager, however I do enjoy screating scripts, tinkering
with websites setting up shopping carts etc.
I got to a point in my business, where to advance, I needed to
outsource a large quantity of tasks that needed to be completed in
order to continue to release products and move forward with the
projects I have planned.
By far the easiest thing to outsource is repetitive tasks, as well as
anything involving programming. By repetitive tasks, I mean
submitting articles, posting in forums, cvreating backlinks, setting
up blogs etc. By programming I mean YOU as the strategist comes up
wit a great idea for a new piece of software, you write the
specifications, and you outsource this to a software developer.
Taking the above into consideration, you will note that the best types
of tasks to outsource are "tactical" tasks, i.e. tasks that you can
perform over and over again to advance your business - i.e. to get
more traffic, more sales, more sign-ups to your newsletter, more
products to sell, more sales pages to sell your products from.
Now, having clarity on the above is great. I can quickly and easily
identify what can be outsourced for any given project I undertake.
So given that I outsource most of my "tactical" internet marketing,
you might be wondering what is left for me to do as the strategist?
Hmmm, where do I start? ;)
The best way to think of strategy is "How will this benefit my
business in the long term?" You have to always be thinking long term.
The other thing you need to be thinking is "How can I automate this
process?", and "What can I outsource?". If you haven't read the 4
Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferriss, make sure you grab a copy, he
covers the topic of automation quite thoroughly, so I won't try and
repeat that here.
So here are some of the taks you will perform as the strategist for
your business"
- Develop new product ideas
- Write specifications for your new products
- Create lists of tasks to be outsourced for new product development
and marketing
- Automate business processes e.g. Shopping cart, help desk, FAQs,
Auto-responders, List software, Membership sites, Forums
- Develop training material for your outsourcers
- Manage your outsourcers (This can be automated to a degree as well)
- Manage cashflow
- Manage development pipeline
- Create and maintain Joint Ventures
Now I firmly believe that if you are serious about anything in life,
then you need to educate yourself, and model yourself on a master.
You could do this by forming a mentor relationship, joinging a
mastermind group, or simply investing in some courses.
If you wanted to study Aikido, you could purchase some of the DVDs
aabout master practitioners like Hiroshi Isoyama. You could seek out
a master and train at their dojo. The point is, you do your research,
find out who you want to model yourself on, then get access to their
teachings however you can.
Now the same applies with business and internet marketing. There are
guys online that have been creating businesses and marketing their
products and services very successfully for many, many years. You
need to find a mentor that you gel with. So when you look at their
products and services, they strike a chord with you. They are
creating products and services of a quality and range that you also
aspire to release. Once you find this person, get a hold of some of
their ebooks and courses hwoever you can, and study them. Soak it all
in.

I just wanted to take the time to address some questions I have been
receiving about the launch.

I am a big fan of Mike Filsaime. The reason being is that he focuses
a lot on "Strategy". He is a "Big picture" thinker, and he has read
most of the business books that I have. I follow what Mike does, and
I have learnt a great deal form him.
Mike, like most successful internet marketers focus on strategy. They
are always thinking one step ahead. If you are on Mike's list, you
would notice that you get an email about one product one day, and
another email about some other totally unrelated service he has also
been developing the next day. He has a lot of irons in the fire at
once so to speak. Now if you think about it, Mike could not develop
and market all these products and services on his own. He has a team
behind him helping him release all these products and services day
after day, month after month, year after year.
When Mike release Butterfly Marketing 2.0 for postage only, he wasn't
just feeling generous that day. It was part of his overall strategy
in getting people to subscribe to his lists. That is how Mike keeps
in contact with his members, subscribers, customers and potential
customers. That is wht Mike doesn't need to rely on traffic from
Google to do a launch! See how tactics and strategy are symbiotic?
Take care of your strategy, and the tactics will almost become a
non-issue.
A lot of newbie marketers tend to ficus too much on tactics.
How can I get higher rankings?
How can I get 5 more sales per week?
How can I get more backlinks?
While important questions, and something you do need to keep an eye
on. These day to day tactical questions are not what you should be
focusing your time and energy on. Focus on the strategy, and let the
rest take care of itself.
One thing I have noticed is that with the plethora of Internet
Marketing courses, services and software available online, they tend
to be divided slightly in favour of products that focus on "tactics".
They are hypey, in that they get consumers excited about making a lot
of money fast with a "tactic". While some of these do have merit
(You'll have to do your own due diligence), I highly recommend that
any products you do invest in have a main focus on "Strategy". These
will give you the best long term benefit.
Finally I wanted to cover the importance of momentum, timing and
patience.
These 3 topics are all inter-related also. With momentum what you
need to understand is that every product and service you release is
essentially another feather in your cap. It is not the end game, or
the website that you are going to retire off. You need to get away
from this kind of thinking. Essentially, you are releasing a series
of products and services. Each time you release a product or service,
you are learning what works best and what mistakes to avoid. You are
also creating a reputation for yourself, and finally you are building
a customer list. So to give you a a simple diagram to explain where I
am coming from:
PRODUCT 1: List=100, Knowledge=Beginner, Reputation=Unknown
PRODUCT 2: List=1000, Knowledge=Beginner, Reputation=Sounds familiar
PRODUCT 3: List=5000, Knowledge=Intermediate, Reputation=Known
PRODUCT 4: List=10000, Knowledge=Intermediate, Reputation=Well Known
PRODUCT 5: List=20000, Knowledge=Advanced, Reputation=Guru
To move through eack of these stages will take time, hence you need
patience! As you move through each product launch, you will be
building momentum for yourself. As your list siza grows, and you
become more well known, you will have more customers to launch your
next product to, and people who know you will be watching out for your
next product. As for timing, your product development lifecycle will
probably dictate how quickly you can release priducts and move through
the various stages. E.g. How long does it take you to write an ebook?
How quickly can you get the specifications for your software written,
outsource it to a software developer, test it and setup your marketing
and backend?
One last thing I would like to add in terms of product development.
You should be thinking in terms of suites of products and services.
Don't just release 1 ebook. Have some complementary products and
services ready to release with the ebook at the same time. These
might be Affiliate products, something you have PLR (private label
rights) to, or something else you developed yourself. Leverage off
your own product launches - it will help you progress your business
even faster.

update you on a method I have been using to create massive backlinks
to my sales pages to boost my rankings in MSN (www.live.com).

Since I released Niche Internet Marketing

dp/0980499208) last year, I have refined some of my methods to produce
even greater consistency in my rankings for keywords and conversions
for sales.
Today I want to focus on expanding the ideas I explored in my Niche
Blog Mininet chapter. As you may or may not know, in the 'Niche Blog
Mininet chapter' of Niche Internet Marketing I recommend you set up a
network of tightly themed blogs to provide high quality backlinks to
your sales pages for the products you are selling.
Over the last few months, I have been testing some additional tweaks
that will make your blog network much more effective and targeted
whilst allowing your sites and links to get indexed and registered in
the fastest possible time.
Firstly I want to address the issue of using multiple C class IP
addresses. If you have set up a network of blogs the traditional way
(i.e. all on one hosting account), you now run the risk of the search
engine algorithms identifying you as somebody trying to manipulate
search engine rankings. Whilst this is not a 100% certainty, you do
run the risk as the search engines have the ability to identify that
all your blogs are on one server by checking the IP address.
To address this problem, I recommend you set up a multiple class C
hosting account with somebody like webhostforseo
(http://www.webhostforseo.com/idev/idevaffiliate.php?id=304_0_3_1).
For about $50 per month you will get 10 different class C IP addresses
which you can setup your blogs on. I recommend you set up a maximum of
3 blogs per IP address. This wil give you a blog network of up to 30
blogs which will be more than sufficient for increasing your backlinks
to your sales pages. Additionally, you can setup sales pages on these
IP addresses too.
Secondly, let's address the issue of providing content for your blog
network. You'll agree that updating thirty blogs all with a different
theme would be more than a full-time job. I am not recommending you
update any of your blogs manually at all. Fortunately there is a
Wordpress plugin that will populate all your blogs for you
automatically, it's called Caffeinated Content
(https://www.e-junkie.com/ecom/gb.php?cl=32302&c=ib&aff=49825).
Caffeinated Content is a plugin for Wordpress that allows you to
automatically make posts to your blog based on the keywords you
specify. You can set date ranges for the posts to occur (in the past
or in the future). If you set future dates, Caffeinated Content will
dripfeed the content to your blog over a period of time. The actual
content that will populate your blogs can be set to either articles,
Yahoo Answers or YouTube videos.
It is very important that each of your blogs has a tight theme, and
the content you supply to each particular blog adheres tightly to that
theme. For instance, if I have a blog about 'bird watching', then that
should be the title of my blog. Additionally, when I run Caffeinated
Content from my wp-admin page, I would use the keyphrase 'bird
watching' so that all the content added to my blog fit the theme. When
you run caffeinated Content, set the items to be posted to 50. Then
leave it at that. Don't keep running it every week, as you'll just put
unnecessary load on your server.
Now you may be wondering about being penalised for having duplicate
content on your blogs. Let me reassure you, that at this point in time
you needn't worry. The reason being is that we are not trying to rank
our blog pages high in the search engines, rather we are using our
blogs as a tool to provide backlinks to our sales pages. Our sales
pages WILL have unique content and will therefore be ranked higher in
the search engines due to the backlinks we are providing from our
blogs.
Another area I have been testing over the last few months is the
randomisation of the links displayed on each particular blog. There is
a really good plugin for Wordpress that you should get called Better
Blogroll (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/better-blogroll/).
Better Blogroll allows you to configure the number of links that are
randomly displayed in your Blogroll. Now here is the sheer simplicity
and beauty of this method. Each time the search engines visit your
blogs and a different list of 4 links is displayed, the search engines
will count them as ANOTHER backlink, even if it is the same link being
randomised again. Additionally, once the links move off the list from
crawl to crawl of the search engine spider, they will not be removed
from your total number of backlinks. Therefore the number will always
be rising. When you install the Better Blogroll plugin, set it to
display 4 links. Make sure you add it in the Widgets section of
wp-admin. Also, edit your theme and add your sidebar code to the
bottom of the single.php file. That way your links will be displayed
on the bottom of every single post page!
Once you have set up your list of links on one blog, you can access
them from http://www.YourBlog.com/wp-links-opml.php. You can then goto
your other blogs and import the links directly without having to
retype them all. In your links list, you should have links to all your
other blogs, as well as links to your sales sites. Remember to make
your anchor text the same as your keywords and keyphrases you are
targeting.
